Let me tell you a story that happened once in my life. As all of you can see, I have a hunchback. When I was a kid, everyone used to make fun of me and tease me because of how I looked like. But I will never forget what happened one time! We were playing soccer... of course I was chosen last and barely touched the ball ... when all of a sudden a kid got tackled and injured himself very badly. All of the kids panicked and didn’t know what to do. There was no phone and no older person we could go to. The nearest place was a gas station about a mile away! In the midst of all confusion and panic, I told them to put the kid on my back and that I will carry him! They did what I told them to do. I can’t tell you how hard it was carrying that kid the full one mile! I was exhausted! But I made it! We arrived at the gas station, phoned for an ambulance, and everything was OK. Since that time, no one made fun of me anymore. It felt good that people saw me as a person rather than seeing my deformity.
People are like apples. Apples have many colours: red, yellow, green, and orange. But inside, they all have the same colour! Same with us! There are black people, white people, yellow people and many many other different kinds of people! There are people with blue eyes, some with green, some with black, and people with red, blonde, black, or brown hair! But inside each one of us, we have a heart - a heart pumping with love!
So I challenge you not to look at the outward appearance of your peers, but rather at the inside!
